Tebessa – Voice Director and Dialogue Editor

Meet Tebessa, Voice Director and Dialogue Editor, Synthesis Italy

1) What is your name and where do you work?
My name is Tebessa Comolli and I work at Synthesis Italy.

2) What is your primary job at Synthesis?
My primary job is Voice Director and Dialogue Editor. As Voice Director my main task is to guide the actors and obtain the best performance possible. I also work on scripts where I adapt the translated text in order to achieve the best results according to recording requests.

3) How and when did you enter the game localization industry?
I discovered the localization industry in 2008. At the time I was working as a freelance translator and it suddenly came to me that even videogames needed translators!

4) What are you doing today?
Today is a very busy day. I spent the morning in the recording studio working on a super secret project. This afternoon I have adapted a script and now I’m answering these questions:)!

5) What was your most demanding project and what made it so interesting?
My most demanding projects have been Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. Very demanding because they were huge projects with thousands of words to dub and hundreds of hours spent in the recording studio. It was very interesting because Mass Effect is sort of a world apart, with different settings, many different planets, alien races, unforgettable characters and a lovely story.

6) What is your favourite game and why?
One of my favourite games is Beyond: Two Souls, because it is like listening to a movie – the dubbing is beautiful. But my favourite game to play is Mario Kart, I enjoy it very much!

7) What do you love about videogames localization?
I love the fact that you are always working on something new, something different. You can’t get bored.

8) What do you dislike about videogames localization?
I don’t like the pressure and long hours. And bad translations!

9) Final question: what do you do when you’re not sitting in front of your computer?
I am most likely sitting in a cinema or in a theatre. Or at home watching a movie or reading a good book.
