Irene – Translation & QA Supervisor

Meet Irene, Translation & QA Supervisor, Synthesis Italy

1) What is your name and where do you work?
My name’s Irene Panzeri and I work from the Italian Head Office, Milan.

2) What is your primary job at Synthesis?
Do you have a couple hours to spare:)? I do a lot of things, mainly I supervise the Italian Translation & Quality Assurance department. I also coordinate the recruiting needs and I keep track of the Italian personnel.

3) How and when did you enter the game localization industry?
I took a “summer” job as localization tester…15, Oh my… 15? Yes, 15 years ago, in Ireland at a company called Vivendi. I’m working
at Synthesis since 2004.

4) What are you doing today?
I’m checking the assets and assigning resources for a new top secret project, I’m training a new proof-reader and I’m sketching out a QA schedule.

5) What was your most demanding project and what made it so interesting?
I remember many, but maybe Skyrim sticks out as one of the first titles to demand both multiple translators and reviewers at the same time which made it very interesting to handle.

6) What is your favourite game and why?
Pikmin, of course. Simple, imaginative, fun, challenging and…Peace-loving.

7) What do you love about videogames localization?
The linguistic challenge.

8) What do you dislike about videogames localization?
As localization runs parallel with development, we lack a lot in terms of context/visual anchoring.

9) Final question: what do you do when you’re not sitting in front of your computer?
I spend most of my free time with my toddler, which equals zero free-time at the moment, but when I had some I used to be a fitness and make-up enthusiast.
