Cristina – Proofreader

Meet Cristina from our Madrid office!

1) What is your name and where do you work?
My name is Cristina Herraiz Olivas, and I work for Synthesis Iberia.

2) How and when did you enter the game localization industry?
Four years ago! When I started to work at Synthesis.

3) What is your primary job at Synthesis?
I’m a Spanish proofreader. Sometimes, I also translate small projects. I also do the sanity checks of other languages (Portuguese and Brazilian mainly).

4) What do you have to take care of today?
Today I’m checking several files for the Assassin’s Creed new title, and some other projects, like Disney Infinity or the new Tekken title.

5) What is your “Synthesis nickname” and what is the story behind?
I don’t have a nickname, I think… As my colleague Patricia said, we like to call our department “Revisonia”, the land of the Reviewers!

6) What was your most demanding project and what made it so special?
Far Cry 3, definitely. I loved its plot and characters. I got really involved in the story. It was a challenging project and while reviewing I could feel a little bit the realistic and immersive experience the gamers would feel.

7) What is your favourite game and why?
Well, every game becomes my favourite when I’m working on them!

8) What do you love about videogames localization?
I find this job really amazing, I have to deal with many challenging situations, and I always learn things, even of my own mother-tongue. And it’s quite funny sometimes!

9) What do you hate about videogames localization?
We would need better references with more context most of the times. It can be really difficult to give the best translation if we do not see things onscreen or if we are not provided with screenshots or descriptions of the context.

10) Final question: what do you do when you’re not sitting in front of your computer?
I love photography, Pilates and doing experiments in the kitchen!
