Beatriz – Proofreader & Reviewer

Meet Beatriz, Proofreader & Reviewer, Synthesis Iberia.

1) What is your name and where do you work?
My name is Beatriz Pedroche and I work at Synthesis Iberia in Spain.

2) What is your primary job at Synthesis?
I am a proofreader & reviewer, although I do other tasks when needed (small translations, translation tests for our candidates, training…).

3) How and when did you enter the game localization industry?
I got my first job at Gameloft Montreal in 2007 as a translator/tester.

4) What are you doing today?
Today I’m working on a title with lots of Japanese characters in one game!

5) What was your most demanding project and what made it so interesting?
All the games are somehow demanding, but I would say Assassin’s Creed 3 because we had such tight deadlines. For the game with the characters I mentioned above I have to learn about heroes I didn’t know about, so it involves a lot of research.

6) What is your favourite game and why?
Mmm…hard question. I think probably all the Dreamcast games I had (Shenmue, Grandia, Jet Set Radio…). My boyfriend at that time (now my husband) and I played for hours. I have very good memories.

7) What do you love about videogames localization?
I can talk about spelling and grammar rules and make jokes about them and my colleagues don’t think I’m crazy 😉

8) What do you dislike about videogames localization?
Lack of context (and the consequent 200 questions to check) and tight deadlines.

9) Final question: what do you do when you’re not sitting in front of your computer?
I knit!! I love knitting and, btw, it is NOT for old ladies. I’m finishing a pullover for a friend’s baby now and my next project will be a hat for my son 🙂
